Litherland Athletic 4–2 Heswall U23’s
Scorers: H. Denton, C. Lambert, G. Williams, OG
Litherland Athletic produced an excellent response to last week’s disappointment with a strong 4–2 victory over Heswall U23’s, showing both quality and resilience throughout.
The hosts started brightly and took the lead through a superb strike from Denton, who found the bottom corner from just outside the box. Litherland continued to press and doubled their advantage just before half-time, as Lambert reacted quickest in the area to finish clinically like a natural striker.
Heswall came out for the second half with renewed intent and, aided by the wind, changed their approach. The visitors managed to pull two goals back, putting Litherland under pressure and setting up a tense final period.
However, the home side showed great character to regain control. With the game finely poised, excellent wing play from Rogan and Jenkins led to Denton driving down the flank and delivering a dangerous ball across goal, which was turned into the net by a Heswall defender for an own goal.
Litherland sealed the victory with five minutes remaining. High pressure from Williams forced a deflection that looped over the goalkeeper, putting the result beyond doubt.
Overall, a solid and determined performance from Litherland Athletic. Despite a second-half setback, the lads showed great spirit to push on and fully deserved the three points.
